Atomos Ninja 2011 BCPVA VIA award

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Las Vegas, Nevada, April 15, 2011
The British Columbia Professional Videographers Association is proud to present Atomos with the 2011 BCPVA Video Innovation Award for the Atomos Ninja.

The 2011 BCPVA VIA was presented to Atomos founders, Jeromy Young and Ian Overliese, by BCPVA delegate Shawn Lam, at NAB 2011.

“2011 will be remembered as the year of the external high definition recorder at NAB 2011 Atomos had the most attractive offerings with their HDMI Ninja and HD-SDI Samurai models. The concept of recording to a higher quality codec, before the video camera compresses it with their lossy codecs, is nothing new, but bringing that technology to a portable camera mountable device makes the concept practical. It is rare to see a piece of technology that so dramatically improves on existing video camera recording quality and Atomos does it with a feature set and attractive price point that makes the Ninja and Samurai must-haves.”

SONY NEX-FS100 2011 VIA Award

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Las Vegas, Nevada, April 12, 2011
The British Columbia Professional Videographers Association is proud to present Sony with the 2011 BCPVA Video Innovation Award for the Sony NEX-FS100.

The 2011 BCPVA VIA was presented to Jeff Ibbotson, Senior Vice President, Professional Solutions Group, by BCPVA delegate Shawn Lam, at NAB 2011.

The NEX FS100 is a super 35 sensor interchangeable lens HD video camera with professional XLR audio inputs.  The super 35 sensor allows the FS100 to attain superior low light sensitivity and a sought-after bokeh, or defocus.  The FS-100 improves on the problems that DSLR camera operators have been limited by, including moiré, aliasing, rolling shutter, 12 minute record limits, lack of data-display-less HDMI record out, and egonomics.

WordCamp:Developers is looking for a videographer

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

WordCamp:Developers is looking for a videographer to partner with in documenting the event for publication on the web. Great opportunity for marketing and broad exposure.

WordCamp:Developers is a one day design and development conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada on May 5th, 2011. The conference will have two main tracks – one for developers and one for user experience designers. There are a total of 12 talks plus a keynote at the beginning.

We have gotten numerous requests to document the event on film for posterity so that people who for one reason or another can’t get to Vancovuer can learn something from the session. This is where we need to team up with a video production house. Our wish is to record each session, both the speaker (video and audio) and the actual presentation (screen capture). This will be done for both tracks which run simultaneously. What we are looking for is a video production company that wants to take on this challenge.

This is a non-profit community organized event and we’re trying to make it as accessible as possible we do not have room in our budget for video production. What we can offer instead is ample exposure both on the website, during the event and in the actual finished videos. The videos from the talks will be posted throughout the web, both on YouTube, the WordCamp:Developers website (www.wordcampdevelopers.com) and on WordPress.tv – the official WordPress video hub. These types of videos are hugely popular in the WordPress community and get viewed hundreds of thousands of times, so strategic placement of logos and names will be beneficial. What we propose is for our video production house to place their logos at the beginning and end of each video as well as a link to their services at the end of each video. That way there is significant marketing value in the project even if it is done pro bono.

If this sounds like the kind of project you want to take on please get in touch with us either through our website at www.wordcampdevelopers.com, through email: info [at] wordcampdevelopers.com or by calling Morten directly at 778.886.3697

HD to SD

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Lately I’ve been asked by videographers and editors how to get a good standard definition version from a high definition master. This task continues to frustrate a lot of people to the point that they would rather avoid the problem entirely by shooting and delivering in SD. This is fine if you never want to re-purpose your footage for future use in a high def. project. This attitude is somewhat myopic in my opinion because one day in the future you’ll hear yourself say “Damn I wish I had shot that in HD.” Sound familiar?
