2011 BCPVA year end dinner speech
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011Last Sunday the BCPVA celebrated its 16th year as Canada’s leading video production association. As a five-term President and current Past-President, I was asked to deliver a speech. I spoke about disruptive technology and the relevance of video association membership.

Disruptive technology and the relevance of BCPVA Membership.
For the past few years I’ve spoken at this event, the BCPVA year end dinner, and given my state of the video industry address. This year I wanted to talk about disruptive technology and the challenges it creates for us individually as video producers and on our association as a whole.
This is my tenth year in the video industry, eighth as the owner of a Vancouver Video Production Company called Shawn Lam Video Inc.. And during that time I’ve produced just over 1 million dollars in corporate and event video productions. When I first started MiniDV was the standard amongst our membership, although DVDs were just starting to gain popularity. Just to show you how far we have come as an industry in ten years, in my first year in the industry, we had more demand for VHS tapes than DVDs.

Port Coquitlam Videographer Wins International Wedding Video Award
Saturday, November 5th, 2011Sarasota, FL – WEVA International announced the winners of its 21st Annual Creative Excellence Awards Competition, live online, during WEVA Expo 2011, The Digital Imaging Supershow. Michael Rendulic, owner of Port Coquitlam based AVinhouse, was awarded the Bronze Creative Excellence Award in the Wedding Movie Trailer category.
While most of the fifteen categories were judged entirely by a peer panel of accredited Merited Professional Videographers, the Wedding Movie Trailer category was ultimately decided by online votes. An initial group of six finalists were chosen by the MPV accredited panel and Expo conference attendees and professional bridal consultants determined the winners through online voting.
Rendulic, who serves locally as an executive member for the BC Professional Videographers Association, only joined WEVA three months prior to the competition but quickly demonstrated that his work is on par with the industry’s top international talents. Because the finalist videos did not display the entrant company names, Rendulic only found out he was a finalist when he was viewing and voting for his own selections.
“When I saw one of my wedding trailers on the top six I didn’t believe what I was seeing. I kept refreshing my browser over and over just to make sure it was real,” remarked Rendulic, who kept refreshing the online conference browser window hours beyond the conference’s 6 PM close, until the winners were finally announced online, well past midnight on the 27th. “I couldn’t sleep because I was so excited and nervous. The WEVA CEA is the most prestigious event video award and to be recognized by my peers as having produced one of the best videos is truly an honour.”
The Wedding Movie Trailer Rendulic was recognized for was from Anita and Marko Mrsic’s wedding, which he filmed on July 9, 2011, at the Heart of Mary Croatian Roman Catholic Church, the Croatian Cultural Centre, and downtown Vancouver. The wedding movie trailer is a teaser highlight of a wedding video, released prior to the wedding video completion.
