Hello Members & Guests;
It is always with the greatest pleasure that we welcome new Professional Members. Joel Law of Joel Law Media has been attending our online meetings through 2020 and this month we are very pleased to feature Joel as a new BCPVA Professional Member. Joel comes to us with a solid academic media production background as well as years of experience as a professional videographer, photographer, and instructor. In many ways Joel is representative of the model of the new breed one stop professional media creator. This should be a very interesting presentation we hope to see you all on-line Feb 23rd!
New Professional Member Presentation: Joel Law Media
Joel Law is a full-stack video producer; capable of taking a production through planning and scripting, capturing the media, all the way to the final editing and polishing of media creation. His initial formal entry into media was working in a photography studio, and then ultimately working professionally as a photographer and videographer for Vancouver based weddings. Wishing to develop further on a professional level, Joel attended BCIT’s Television & Video Production and graduated in 2017, with distinction and recognition with the Luke Fahrmann Memorial Award.
Currently Joel is involved in his local Vancouver community and has demonstrated his talent for creating trending content with work such as coverage of Veterans on Canada day, completed for same day broadcast on Breakfast TV, and work covering Vancouver films sets like Starwars Bucketheads aired on Global BC News.
Joel’s reputation for quality work and professionalism has gained him work with a diverse range of corporate clients, and organisations such as Global, the Ismaili Volunteer Corps, Lululemon, and the NDP. With his wide knowledge video editing, live production, and demo reel development Joel is also an instructor at the Nimbus School of Recording and & Media.
With strong technical and storytelling skills Joel Law Media provides start to finish media content production. Joel can be reached via www.joellaw.com
People can start joining the meeting at 6:45 pm, and the meeting will start at 7 pm. If you have never used Zoom before, please join early to download and troubleshoot.
How it will work: You can connect with both Windows and Mac computers / laptops, Apple and Android cell phones, and tablets with the Zoom video app. This link will give you a prompt to download and run Zoom if you have never used Zoom before. If you have used Zoom, it will open a box with Zoom Meetings highlighted – click the Open Link button. When you connect you can test your headphones, webcam, and microphone with Zoom, before you join the talk.
Audio: This is the most important part. We want/need to avoid feedback -so wear headphones. If members don’t wear headphones, the audio from everyone else will feed into their microphone and this can cause a feedback loop.
Microphone: Most laptops and mobile devices have built-in microphones (and webcams). These will work just fine. Your mobile devices likely shipped with headphones with a built-in microphone – this works great too. If you have and headphones with three rings on the connector then your headphones have a microphone built-in. If you are using an external USB webcam, then it probably has a microphone too. If you haven’t used it in a while, you may want to plug it in and possibly update the driver. Webcam: If you are joining with a mobile device then take the time to mount your device on a stand at eye level. The same basics that apply to videography apply to webcam usage: add some soft front-light, avoid back-light, and be aware what is in your background.
