BCPVA Meeting – April 27th 2021 – Building Your Business in a Post COVID World

Hello Members & Guests;

It seems like forever that the grim specter of the COVID-19 pandemic has hung over us, confining us, restricting us, and casting many businesses into a COVID winter. But now at last we can see some light, the thaw, and new buds on the branches. We know the re-opened world will be different, and new opportunities will present themselves. We want to be ready, so where do we start?

We are so fortunate this month to have the perfect guest speaker for this topic. Anthony Burokas is a 25 year veteran with wide experience ranging from broadcast television, and streaming production, to production engineering, conference speaking, and business building within our industry. Get ready to rebuild with us in this must attend event!

More About Anthony:

Anthony Burokas is the founder and President of IEBA Communications, LLC. He is a 25 year television production veteran whose key credits include more than 10 years and the engineer and technical director of Flavors of America and Healthy Flavors on PBS. His award-winning outdoor adventure series Wilderness Adventures Off The Beaten Path® is available at retail stores in Alaska. His freelance credits are too numerous to mention.

He has published his own entertainment production magazine Filmadelphia, blogged for CamcorderInfo.com, and has been published in several magazines over the years, including New Media, Camcorder & Computer Video, and American Cinematographer. He was a Contributing Editor for EventDV magazine, a monthly trade publication, for over 7 years before the publications transformation to Streaming Media Producer. Anthony continues to be a Contributing Editor for Streaming Media- writing articles, reviewing gear, producing videos, and giving seminars, including his very popular recent 100+ Tips for Live Streaming Professionals.

Based in the Dallas, Texas area, his daily work includes corporate training, special event video and, remarkably, creative video production as a hobby. He created Frisco Studios – an openly rentable soundstage serving Frisco TX and surrounding cities. This soundstage was home to Frisco Arts Friday – a live “entertainment news magazine” show that featured local artists, interviews and performances. Seeing the need for similar services outside the studio, Anthony created Stream4us – focusing solely on multi-camera, live-switched, recorded and streamed production. He has traveled the US providing production and streaming services. More recently, he’s taken his services to the cloud, providing streaming and recording services to clients around the world.

DHD Films in Dallas Texas also added Anthony to their roster of in-house talent as Head of Streaming. Anthony oversees all streaming production, as well as solves leading-edge challenges with new technologies for both in-house and remote production.

Meeting Details:

People can start joining the meeting at 6:45 pm, and the meeting will start at 7 pm. If you have never used Zoom before, please join early to download and troubleshoot.

How it will work: You can connect with both Windows and Mac computers / laptops, Apple and Android cell phones, and tablets with the Zoom video app. This link will give you a prompt to download and run Zoom if you have never used Zoom before. If you have used Zoom, it will open a box with Zoom Meetings highlighted – click the Open Link button. When you connect you can test your headphones, webcam, and microphone with Zoom, before you join the talk.

Audio: This is the most important part.  We want/need to avoid feedback -so wear headphones. If members don’t wear headphones, the audio from everyone else will feed into their microphone and this can cause a feedback loop.

Microphone: Most laptops and mobile devices have built-in microphones (and webcams).  These will work just fine. Your mobile devices likely shipped with headphones with a built-in microphone – this works great too.  If you have and headphones with three rings on the connector then your headphones have a microphone built-in.  If you are using an external USB webcam, then it probably has a microphone too.  If you haven’t used it in a while, you may want to plug it in and possibly update the driver. Webcam: If you are joining with a mobile device then take the time to mount your device on a stand at eye level.  The same basics that apply to videography apply to webcam usage: add some soft front-light, avoid back-light, and be aware what is in your background.
